American singer and musician John Legend has lost $50,000 after placing a bet against Morocco.
The bet was made during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, when Morocco faced France in the semi-finals. Legend backed France to win, but Morocco’s historic run ended that night with a 2-0 defeat.
Because his prediction did not come true, Legend had to pay out $50,000. The money went to a charity linked to Morocco, meaning the singer’s lost wager ended up supporting a good cause.
Morocco’s journey in Qatar still stood out as one of the tournament’s biggest stories, with the Atlas Lions becoming the first African team to reach a World Cup semi-final.
