Tottenham star rushed to hospital after illness in AFCON final

Tottenham defender Pape Matar Sarr was rushed to hospital after falling ill during Senegal’s Africa Cup of Nations final victory over hosts Morocco, in a chaotic end to the tournament.

Sarr, who was part of Senegal’s matchday squad for the final, became unwell during the contest and required medical attention. He was taken to hospital as a precaution as Senegal went on to secure the AFCON title.

The final itself was played in a tense atmosphere and featured several stoppages and flashpoints as Morocco, backed by a home crowd, pushed for a late response. Senegal held their nerve to see out the win and lift the trophy.

After the match, it was revealed that Sarr had been taken to hospital following his illness during the game. There was no suggestion of a long-term issue, but the midfielder was monitored by medical staff as Senegal celebrated their triumph.

Sarr will now be expected to return to Tottenham ahead of the next phase of the season, once he has been given the all-clear after his hospital checks.
