Aston Villa head coach Unai Emery has confirmed that Harvey Elliott will not play for the club again, revealing the decision over the Liverpool loanee’s future was made “months” ago.
Elliott, who joined Villa on loan from Liverpool, has found himself out of favour and has not been involved in recent matchday squads. Emery has now made it clear the midfielder is no longer part of his plans for the remainder of the season.
Speaking about the situation, Emery said the call had already been taken some time ago. “Months” is when the Villa boss insisted the decision was made, leaving Elliott effectively stranded as his loan spell reaches its final stretch.
The confirmed stance means Elliott’s time at Villa is set to end without any further appearances, with the player expected to return to Liverpool once the loan period expires.
Emery’s comments bring an end to any doubt over Elliott’s prospects of forcing his way back into the team, with the coach’s message underlining that Villa have moved on and the midfielder will not feature again.
