Viktor Gyokeres has explained the thinking behind his eye-catching goal celebration and admitted his early days at Arsenal have been “challenging” as he settles into a new club and a new league.

The Sweden striker, who joined Arsenal in the summer, said he has needed time to adapt to his new surroundings, the demands of Mikel Arteta’s side and the level of competition in the Premier League.

Gyokeres also revealed what inspired his now-talked-about celebration, lifting the lid on the personal reason behind the gesture and why he decided to make it part of his trademark after scoring.

While he acknowledged it has not all been smooth at the start, Gyokeres insisted he is feeling better with each week as he builds relationships with his new team-mates and gets used to Arsenal’s style of play.

The forward’s comments come as he continues to work through the pressure and expectations that come with leading the line for a club pushing at the top end of English football, with Gyokeres making clear he is focused on improving and delivering for Arsenal.
