Wayne Rooney has sent a proud message to his son Kai after the teenager made his Old Trafford debut for Manchester United’s Under-18s.
Kai Rooney, who is part of United’s academy setup, featured at the famous stadium as the club’s youth side played in front of supporters at Old Trafford. The appearance marked a notable moment in the youngster’s development, with the 15-year-old continuing his progress through the ranks at Carrington.
Rooney, Manchester United’s all-time leading goalscorer and a former captain at the club, reacted publicly after the match and reposted a throwback image linked to his own days at Old Trafford. Alongside it, he wrote: “Proud of you son.”
Kai has been on United’s books for several years and is following the same pathway his father once took, although he is still in the early stages of his career. The debut at Old Trafford is another milestone in a season in which he has been involved with United’s youth teams as he continues his education within the academy.
Rooney has spoken in the past about his children’s interest in football, and this latest message underlined the family pride after Kai’s latest step in a United shirt at the club’s home stadium.
