Weston McKennie reacts to Jonathan David Panenka miss

Weston McKennie and a teammate celebrate during a Juventus match, both in black kits with 'Jeep' branding, conveying team spirit.

Weston McKennie has weighed in after Lille striker Jonathan David suffered a costly moment from the penalty spot with a failed Panenka, while the Juventus midfielder also opened up on why he is now enjoying yet another new role for the Bianconeri.

David attempted to chip his spot-kick down the middle, but the effort did not come off and left him facing immediate criticism. McKennie, speaking about the incident, admitted those moments can happen to any player, but stressed that penalties still take nerve and that the Canada international will be judged by how he responds next.

The USMNT international also revealed he is pleased with how things are going for him at Juventus as he continues to be used in different positions. McKennie said he has embraced being moved around, explaining that he likes the responsibility and feels it helps him stay involved in games.

McKennie has been asked to do varying jobs in Turin, but he believes the change has suited him and allowed him to show a broader side of his game. He added that adapting quickly has become a key part of his mindset at Juventus, and that he is enjoying the challenge rather than fighting it.

While David’s Panenka miss has become a major talking point, McKennie’s message was clear: confidence can swing during a season, and one mistake does not define a player. For McKennie, the focus remains on learning, adjusting and delivering, no matter where he is deployed.
