Xabi Alonso explains Endrick loan after Lyon move

Xabi Alonso has explained why Real Madrid have decided to send Endrick out on loan after the Brazilian completed a move to Lyon.

The young forward has joined the Ligue 1 side on a temporary deal shortly after linking up with Madrid, with the club opting for regular first-team minutes over keeping him in Spain this season.

Speaking about the decision, Alonso made it clear that the priority is Endrick’s development and game time, rather than having him on the bench at the Bernabeu. The Real Madrid head coach said the loan is designed to help the teenager adapt to European football and continue his progress in a competitive environment.

Endrick’s switch to Lyon was confirmed this week, with the deal sending him to France for the campaign. Madrid believe the move will give him the chance to play consistently and return better prepared for the demands of life at the club.

Alonso stressed that the club will monitor Endrick closely during his spell in Ligue 1, and that the plan has been discussed internally as part of a long-term pathway for the Brazil international.

The decision underlines Madrid’s approach with young talents, and Alonso’s comments offered the clearest insight yet into why the club felt a loan was the best next step after Endrick’s Lyon transfer was completed.
