The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed it has opened an investigation into what it described as “unacceptable behaviour” by players during the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals.
CAF said it is looking into incidents that took place across the last-eight matches, with the governing body moving to review reports and footage from the games in question.
In a brief statement, CAF said it had “opened an investigation into the unacceptable behaviour displayed by some players during the AFCON quarter-final matches.”
The federation added that it would deal with the matter through the appropriate channels once the investigation is complete.
The quarter-finals were played as the tournament moved into its decisive stages, and CAF’s announcement comes as attention turns to the closing rounds of the competition.
No further details were provided by CAF at this stage, and the body has not yet confirmed which matches or individuals are under review.
CAF has also not announced any immediate sanctions, with the process now underway before any official decisions are made.
