Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has delivered a blunt verdict on Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw, saying it is time for both players to move on as he questioned why they are still at the club.
Scholes’ comments came in a strong rant as he discussed United’s ongoing problems and the lack of progress in key areas of the squad. The club legend made it clear he does not see Maguire or Shaw as part of the solution, despite their experience and time spent at Old Trafford.
“The fact that they are still here is a joke!” Scholes said, as he pointed to the need for major changes and a quicker reset.
The former England international midfielder argued United have been too slow to move players on and refresh the group, suggesting that lingering problems have held the team back in recent seasons.
Scholes’ criticism was aimed at the wider situation as much as the individuals, but his message on Maguire and Shaw was clear. He believes United must be more ruthless if they want to return to competing at the top level, and he insisted the club needs to make tough decisions rather than allowing the same issues to repeat.
The comments will add to the scrutiny already on Maguire and Shaw, both of whom remain prominent figures in a squad still trying to find consistency. Scholes’ view is that change cannot be delayed any longer, and he feels United have to act decisively in moving on from players he does not believe should still be at the club.
