Kobbie Mainoo has been urged to sue former Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim by Gary Lineker after the midfielder’s lack of minutes under the Portuguese coach.

Lineker did not hold back as he praised Mainoo’s ability and questioned why the youngster was not given more chances at Old Trafford. “He’s taken a year out of that kid’s career!” Lineker said, pointing to a season in which Mainoo’s progress was stalled by limited game time.

Mainoo has since looked far sharper under Michael Carrick, with the ex-United midfielder giving him a platform to play regularly and show what he can do. The young midfielder has caught the eye with his composure and quality, raising fresh debate about how he was handled previously.

The comments from Lineker have added to growing scrutiny around Amorim’s decisions during his time at Manchester United, particularly regarding young players. While Mainoo’s talent has never been in doubt, Lineker’s strong reaction underlined the belief that a crucial period of development was wasted.

Mainoo continues to impress with Carrick’s backing, and his form has only strengthened the feeling that he should have been trusted far earlier.
