Manchester City’s new signing Marc Guehi admitted he was left confused by the reaction he received from Liverpool supporters after being booed at Anfield.
The defender was targeted by sections of the home crowd following his move to City, with some fans seemingly unhappy about a transfer that did not happen in the summer window. Guehi was previously linked with a switch to Liverpool, but the deal never materialised.
Speaking about the jeers, Guehi said: “I’m not sure why!” He added that he did not understand the reason behind the boos and insisted he was focused on his football.
The England international also revealed he had been aware of the speculation connecting him with Liverpool during the summer, but stressed that his future was ultimately settled elsewhere once City made their move.
Guehi is now looking to settle quickly at the Etihad and concentrate on his performances, despite the noise around his failed Anfield transfer and the reception it sparked on Merseyside.
