Questions are growing over whether the Confederation of African Football (CAF) will take firm action against Al Ahly following the incidents at Cairo Stadium, after the body recently imposed a “behind closed doors” sanction on Morocco’s AS FAR.
The decision to punish AS FAR with a wiklo (playing without fans) has reopened the debate about consistency in disciplinary measures, especially when similar scenes are recorded in other stadiums across the continent.
In Cairo, the match atmosphere was overshadowed by crowd-related incidents that drew attention, pushing many observers to ask if CAF will apply the same penalty to the Egyptian club, or if the case will be handled differently.
The comparison has become unavoidable because the AS FAR sanction was clear and direct, and it was linked to fan behavior. Now, the focus is on whether CAF will act with the same strict approach regarding what happened in Cairo.
So far, no official decision has been announced concerning Al Ahly, but the incident has placed CAF under pressure, with calls for equal treatment and a unified standard in applying punishments, regardless of the club or country involved.
