Brazil Legend Refuses to Comment on Neymar Dilemma

Brazilian football icon Ronaldo Nazário has declined to offer his opinion on the ongoing debate surrounding Neymar’s potential inclusion in the national team for the 2026 World Cup.

The discussion was ignited by national team coach Dorival Júnior, who stated in a recent press conference that “the door is not closed for anyone,” specifically mentioning Neymar. This has led to widespread speculation about whether the Al Hilal star, currently recovering from a serious knee injury, will be part of the Seleção’s plans for the tournament in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

When asked directly about the matter, Ronaldo, a two-time World Cup winner, was unequivocal in his response. “I will not comment on Neymar,” he stated firmly. He emphasized that the decision rests solely with the coaching staff, adding, “It is up to the coach to decide. He is the one who must choose the players he believes are best for the team’s objectives.”

Neymar’s situation presents a complex challenge for Dorival Júnior. The 32-year-old forward is Brazil’s all-time leading goalscorer but has been plagued by injuries in recent years, most recently tearing the anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus in his left knee in October 2023. His expected return to action is in the latter half of 2024.

By refusing to be drawn into the debate, Ronaldo has sidestepped a potentially divisive topic. His stance underscores the authority of the current technical committee and avoids adding external pressure on either the coach or the player as Brazil builds its project for the 2026 World Cup.
