Benin head coach Gernot Rohr said Egypt hold a clear edge over his side ahead of their upcoming clash, stressing that the Pharaohs’ quality and experience make them favourites.
Speaking before the match, Rohr admitted that Egypt’s squad depth and big-match know-how give them “a significant advantage” over Benin, especially with the difference in options available to both teams.
The German coach pointed to Egypt’s standing in African football and the level of players they can call upon, noting that this kind of experience often decides tight games.
However, Rohr insisted his players are not travelling to make up the numbers. He underlined that Benin will try to be organised, compete for every ball and take their chances when they come, despite acknowledging the strength of the opposition.
Rohr added that respect for Egypt does not mean fear, and that his team will look to deliver a strong performance and test themselves against one of the continent’s leading national sides.
