Chelsea Counter Man Utd’s Mega Palmer Bid; Madrid Legend Return

Chelsea are bracing themselves for interest in Cole Palmer this summer after reports claimed Manchester United are weighing up a huge offer for the England attacker. United are said to be preparing a headline bid in the region of £150 million, a figure that would rank among the biggest deals in Premier League history.

Any move looks complicated. Palmer only joined Chelsea from Manchester City last year and has quickly become the focal point of Mauricio Pochettino’s side, delivering goals and assists at an elite rate despite the club’s inconsistent season. Chelsea view him as a long-term cornerstone and are not actively looking to sell.

With that in mind, Chelsea are expected to push back hard if United formalise their interest. The Blues are believed to be ready to offer Palmer improved terms in an effort to shut down the noise, and they would likely demand a fee well beyond United’s initial figure to even consider talks. Chelsea’s stance is clear: they want to build around Palmer, not cash in.

From United’s perspective, the appeal is obvious. Erik ten Hag has lacked a reliable, high-output attacker in the final third and Palmer’s ability to play across the front line fits what United have been missing—both creativity between the lines and a calm end product. Still, a deal of that size would require major sales and would test United’s room within financial rules.

There is also a separate storyline developing in Spain, where Real Madrid are being linked with the return of a club icon. Madrid are said to be considering bringing back legendary left-back Marcelo in a surprise reunion, with the Brazilian currently set to become a free agent.

Marcelo, 36, spent 16 seasons at the Santiago Bernabéu and became one of the most decorated players in the club’s history. He left in 2022 after lifting multiple Champions League titles and has since played in Greece and back in Brazil. A return would likely be short-term and largely driven by experience and leadership rather than a guaranteed starting role.

Madrid’s summer plans are already busy, with the arrival of Kylian Mbappé expected and the club balancing minutes across an already deep squad. Any move for Marcelo would be a sentimental one, but there is a belief his presence could still add value in the dressing room.

For now, both stories remain at the rumour stage. Chelsea are determined to keep Palmer and would need a truly extraordinary bid to open the door. Meanwhile, Madrid’s interest in Marcelo appears exploratory, but it is a link that will spark plenty of debate given his status at the club.
