Egypt beat Ivory Coast to set up Senegal semi-final clash

Egypt's Mohamed Salah, in a red kit, battles for the ball against Ivory Coast's Samuel, who wears a white kit with orange details, during a tense match.

Egypt’s U-17 side booked a place in the semi-finals after edging Ivory Coast on penalties following a 1-1 draw, in a quarter-final played at the Agadir Stadium.

The match opened at a high tempo, with both teams trading attacks, but it was Ivory Coast who struck first. Oumar Coulibaly put the “Elephants” ahead with a well-taken goal, giving his side the advantage before the break.

Egypt responded strongly in the second half and kept pushing for an equaliser. Their pressure paid off when Hamza Abdel Karim found the net to level the score at 1-1, bringing the “Pharaohs” back into the contest and sending the match towards a tense finish.

With no further goals in regulation time, the quarter-final was decided from the spot. Egypt kept their composure in the shootout and went through 5-4 on penalties to eliminate Ivory Coast inside the Agadir Stadium.

The result sets up a heavyweight semi-final against Senegal, in what promises to be a fiery showdown as Egypt continue their run in the competition.
