Samuel Eto’o has revealed that Cameroon seriously considered withdrawing during their Africa Cup of Nations clash against Morocco.

In comments shown in a video, the former star and current Cameroon Football Federation president admitted that pulling out “was an option on the table” because of what he described as difficult circumstances surrounding the match.

Eto’o explained that the situation was discussed internally, before Cameroon ultimately decided to continue and play on against the tournament hosts.

The statement brings fresh light to the tension that accompanied that AFCON meeting with Morocco, with Eto’o confirming for the first time that withdrawal was not just talk, but a real possibility considered by the Cameroon camp.
