An international news agency has drawn attention to what it described as strange scenes in the stands during the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where some supporters have turned matches into moments for eating and taking selfies.

The report said a number of fans were seen bringing full meals into stadiums and focusing on filming themselves on their phones, sometimes more than watching the action on the pitch.

According to the agency, the “phenomenon” has appeared clearly during the tournament, with images circulating widely on social media showing spectators enjoying food in the stands while posing for selfies and recording videos.

It added that the behavior has sparked debate among followers, between those who see it as a normal expression of the festive atmosphere around football, and others who believe it affects the traditional image of supporter passion inside African stadiums.

The agency noted that Morocco’s hosting of the Africa Cup of Nations has been marked by strong attendance and lively scenes, but said these new habits have become one of the talking points of the competition.

In its report, the agency said the stadium has become, for some fans, a place to document the experience and share it instantly online, turning the match into content as much as sport.

The report concluded that the tournament has offered not only competitive football, but also fresh pictures of fan culture, with food, selfies and constant filming now part of the matchday routine for a section of the crowd.
