Former CAF Disciplinary Committee president Mohamed Bouya has criticized the Confederation of African Football’s decision to hand a reduced sanction to Senegal coach Aliou Cissé, describing the punishment as too lenient.
Bouya said the coach’s conduct warranted a stronger response, stressing that disciplinary rulings must protect the image of African competitions and ensure respect for CAF’s regulations.
He argued that easing the penalty sends the wrong message and could encourage similar behaviour in the future, calling for greater consistency when the disciplinary bodies deal with incidents involving coaches and officials.
CAF had issued a lighter ban on Cissé following the case that drew widespread attention, a decision that has sparked debate among observers over the handling of discipline at the continental level.
