Former France star says Mbappe failed with Brahim Diaz

Real Madrid players celebrate joyfully during a match, wearing their white kits, amidst a lively stadium atmosphere.

Former France international Patrice Evra has criticised Kylian Mbappe over the Real Madrid forward’s comments about Brahim Diaz, saying the captain “failed” in the way he handled the situation.

Evra’s remarks came after Mbappe spoke about Diaz’s decision to represent Morocco rather than France, a choice that has drawn attention in recent days.

Mbappe had suggested that Diaz’s switch was linked to his personal circumstances, including his place in the France squad, but Evra rejected that idea and said the Real Madrid player should have approached the subject differently.

“Mbappe failed in what he did with Brahim Diaz,” Evra said, stressing that such matters should be treated with more respect, especially when a player makes a national-team choice.

Diaz, who came through Spain’s youth levels and later played for France at under-age level, opted to play for Morocco at senior level.

Evra insisted that players should not be judged for choosing a country that represents their identity and roots, adding that the discussion should not be turned into a public argument between stars.
