Infantino calls AFCON chaos unacceptable as Morocco appeal FIFA

Excited fans in vibrant yellow, green, and red attire celebrate passionately in the stands, showcasing a festive atmosphere at a match.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino has described the confusion that surrounded a recent Africa Cup of Nations qualifier as “unacceptable,” after Morocco confirmed it has appealed to FIFA following the matchday chaos.

The incident came when official communications around the result and standings led to uncertainty and anger, prompting Morocco’s football authorities to escalate the matter. Morocco’s appeal has now been lodged with FIFA, asking the sport’s world governing body to review what happened and how the situation was handled.

Infantino said the events should not happen in international football, stressing that the integrity of CAF competitions must be protected and that clearer procedures are required to avoid a repeat. He made it clear that such disorder damages the game and leaves teams, players and supporters in the dark.

The episode has also put the Confederation of African Football under renewed scrutiny over match management and communication during AFCON qualifying. Morocco’s move to take the case to FIFA underlines the seriousness with which it views the matter and the desire for a formal decision.

As revealed in the report, Morocco has submitted an official appeal to FIFA in response to the confusion linked to the AFCON qualifier, seeking clarification and action after what Infantino labelled an unacceptable sequence of events.
