Inter Miami have confirmed Lionel Messi has picked up an injury and have postponed their friendly in Puerto Rico against Independiente del Valle.

The MLS club revealed Messi is dealing with a “low-grade injury” in his right adductor. Inter Miami said the decision was taken as a precaution, with the captain set to be monitored on a day-to-day basis.

Because of that issue, Saturday’s match in San Juan will no longer go ahead as planned, and the club has moved to reschedule the fixture for a later date.

Inter Miami also stressed that the change is linked to Messi’s condition, with the medical staff continuing to assess him and manage his workload during the preseason period.

The postponement means fans in Puerto Rico will have to wait to see Messi and the rest of the squad in person, while the team adjust their schedule around recovery and fitness ahead of the new campaign.
