Leeds United have confirmed a supporter died following a medical emergency at Elland Road ahead of their Premier League match against Manchester United on Sunday.
The club said the incident happened in the West Stand before kick-off, with medical staff and emergency services responding immediately. The game went ahead as scheduled.
In a statement released after the match, Leeds said they were “devastated” by the news and offered their condolences to the supporter’s family and friends. The club also thanked those who provided assistance on the day, including stewards, medical teams and emergency services.
Leeds confirmed the supporter later died, and said the club is in contact with the family to offer support at what it described as a very difficult time.
Sunday’s fixture ended in a 2-2 draw. Manchester United led through Marcus Rashford’s 80th-minute strike before Jadon Sancho made it 2-0 in the 82nd minute. Leeds responded late, with Rodrigo pulling one back in the 88th minute and Luis Sinisterra equalising in the fifth minute of stoppage time.
Leeds said it would continue to provide support to everyone affected by the tragedy.
