Riyad Mahrez admitted Nigeria deserved their win over Algeria, insisting the referee was not to blame for his side’s defeat.
Speaking after the match, the Algeria captain said his team did not do enough to get a result and accepted that Nigeria were the better side on the day.
Mahrez also rejected any suggestion that officiating decisions decided the outcome, stressing that Algeria’s performance was the main reason they lost.
His comments came as Algeria were left to reflect on a disappointing result, while Nigeria took the points after a stronger display.
