Malawi head coach Kalisto Pasuwa has clarified the comments he made after his team’s match against Tunisia, stressing that his words were misunderstood and insisting he did not mean to offend anyone.

Pasuwa explained that his remarks came in the heat of the moment following the game, and said he now retracts what he stated after the final whistle. He added that he respects Tunisia and its football tradition, and that Malawi’s focus is purely on competing and improving.

The coach also spoke about Malawi’s ambitions in the Africa Cup of Nations, noting that his players are hungry to make history and that the team will keep fighting until the end, regardless of the pressure and the difficulty of the group.

Looking at the bigger picture, Pasuwa said he hopes the tournament can produce surprises similar to what happened with Portugal and Italy in major competitions, when both teams managed to go far despite difficult starts. He pointed to those examples as proof that a team can recover, grow during the tournament, and change its story with one strong result.

He underlined that Malawi will take lessons from every match, and that the squad must stay united as they prepare for what comes next in the competition.
