Manchester City are weighing up a January move for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi as Pep Guardiola continues to battle a growing injury problem at the back.

City’s concern rose further after the 4-4 Premier League draw with Chelsea, a game in which Guardiola saw two key defenders limp off. The champions dropped points in a chaotic contest and left the Etihad with fresh fitness doubts, adding to an already stretched defensive unit.

Guardiola did not hide his frustration after the match, warning that the situation is becoming harder to manage with bodies continuing to fall. City have been forced into constant adjustments in defence this season, and the latest setbacks have pushed the club to assess the market more seriously.

One name under consideration is Guehi, who has impressed for Palace and established himself as one of the Premier League’s most reliable centre-backs. City are looking at options ahead of January and Guehi is on their list as they consider whether to strengthen.

The interest comes with the calendar tightening and the demands on Guardiola’s squad increasing across competitions. City’s defensive injury crisis has left them short on cover, and the club are now weighing up whether a mid-season move is needed to protect their ambitions in the months ahead.
