Marc Guehi says God stopped Liverpool and Man City moves

Marc Guehi has said his failed moves to Liverpool and Manchester City last summer were down to “God’s plan” as he prepares for his first return to Anfield since the transfer saga.

The Crystal Palace captain was heavily linked with a switch away from Selhurst Park during the offseason, with Liverpool and Manchester City both credited with interest. However, no deal was completed and Guehi remained with Palace for the start of the new campaign.

Now, ahead of Palace’s visit to Liverpool, Guehi has opened up on how he dealt with the uncertainty. The England defender insisted he did not view the collapse of those potential transfers as a setback, but as part of a bigger picture.

“It’s God’s plan,” Guehi said, explaining that he trusts the path laid out for him and believes everything happens for a reason.

Guehi will be in the spotlight again at Anfield, not only because of Palace’s trip to Merseyside but also because of the attention that followed him through the summer window. It will be his first appearance there since the speculation over a Liverpool move gathered pace.

Despite the talk, Guehi stayed focused on Palace and has continued to lead the side as captain, with his future still a point of interest after a summer in which two of the Premier League’s biggest clubs were linked with him.
