Senegal accused of doping test evasion vs Morocco

Senegal’s national football team is facing a serious accusation of evading post-match doping controls following their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Morocco last year.

The incident occurred after the match on September 9, 2023, at the Stade de la Paix in Bouaké, which ended in a 1-1 draw. According to the Moroccan Royal Football Federation (FRMF), the Senegalese delegation allegedly left the stadium without undergoing the mandatory anti-doping tests administered by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

In an official statement, the FRMF revealed it has filed a formal complaint with CAF. The federation stated it possesses documented evidence, including official correspondence and signed match reports, confirming that the Senegalese team did not complete the required post-match procedures.

The Moroccan body’s complaint urges CAF to open a disciplinary investigation into the matter. It emphasizes that such an action, if proven, constitutes a severe violation of the competition’s regulations and the spirit of fair play.

As of now, the Senegalese Football Federation has not issued a public response to the allegations. The governing body for African football, CAF, is expected to examine the evidence and decide on the next steps in the coming days.
