Senegal legend says Morocco incident not like Kinshasa

Senegal legend El Hadji Diouf said the controversy that surrounded Senegal’s match in Morocco “cannot be compared” to the infamous “Kinshasa incident,” stressing that the two events were of a completely different scale.

Diouf spoke about the fallout from Senegal’s recent game in Morocco, which sparked criticism and debate, but he insisted the situation should not be exaggerated or placed in the same category as what happened years ago in Kinshasa.

“What happened in Morocco cannot be compared to the Kinshasa incident,” Diouf said, pointing out that Kinshasa remains one of the darkest moments African football has witnessed.

He recalled that the Kinshasa episode involved extreme scenes that went far beyond normal match tension, explaining that it was a case where chaos took over and the football match was pushed into the background.

Diouf added that while what took place in Morocco was unacceptable and deserved to be addressed, it did not reach the same level of danger and disorder that marked the events in Kinshasa.

In his comments, the former Senegal star also revealed that the Kinshasa incident left deep scars on players and those present, underlining that such memories stay for life and should never be repeated.

Diouf’s remarks come as Senegal continue to deal with the aftermath of the Morocco match, with calls for calm and for any complaints to be handled through the proper official channels.
