Spain coach Luis de la Fuente has addressed the talk around Ibrahim Diaz and the possibility of “La Roja” losing the player, after the Real Madrid midfielder chose to represent Morocco.
De la Fuente made it clear that the national team staff did not turn their backs on Diaz, stressing that the player was always monitored and considered like many others in his position.
He explained that Spain’s technical staff follow a wide list of players, but selection depends on what the team needs at each international break, the form of the players, and the competition for places.
The coach also underlined that Diaz made his own choice on his international future, and that Spain respect the decision, while continuing to focus on the players who are part of the current project.
De la Fuente’s comments come as Diaz has emerged as an important name with Real Madrid this season, and after it was revealed that the player had completed his switch to Morocco, ending the debate over his national team future.
