Tunisia’s U-17 national team bowed out of the Morocco edition after a defeat to Mali on penalties, following a 1-1 draw over 90 minutes, in the quarter-finals of the tournament.
The match stayed tight early on, with both sides struggling to create clear chances, before Mali began to press more as the first half went on.
Mali broke the deadlock and went in front, putting Tunisia under pressure and forcing the North Africans to chase the game after the break.
Tunisia responded in the second half and managed to find the equaliser, taking the quarter-final into a penalty shootout.
In the shootout, Mali held their nerve to win and book their place in the semi-finals, ending Tunisia’s run in the competition.
The result means Tunisia exit the Morocco edition with a historic number, as their elimination came after reaching the quarter-finals for the first time in the tournament’s history, marking their best performance in the competition.
