King Mohammed VI has expressed his pride in Morocco’s national team, the Atlas Lions, after their historic run at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
In an official message, the King praised the players, coaching staff and everyone involved for what he described as an achievement that brought joy to Moroccans at home and abroad. He highlighted the team’s fighting spirit, discipline and strong sense of unity throughout the tournament.
Morocco made history by becoming the first African nation to reach the World Cup semi-finals. The Atlas Lions topped their group, then beat Spain and Portugal in the knockout rounds before losing to France in the last four. They later finished fourth after defeat to Croatia in the third-place play-off.
The King said the team’s performance had lifted the Moroccan flag high on the world stage and reflected the true values of the nation. He also underlined that the Atlas Lions had won the respect of football fans worldwide with their determination and confidence.
