A senior official at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has dismissed allegations suggesting that Morocco influenced refereeing decisions, stressing that there is no basis for claims of manipulation.
The CAF official made it clear that the continent’s governing body has strict procedures in place for selecting and appointing referees, adding that match officials are chosen through defined mechanisms that do not allow interference from any federation.
He underlined that Morocco’s role in African football, including its regular involvement in hosting major tournaments and its presence in CAF structures, should not be used as a pretext to spread accusations about refereeing.
The comments come amid renewed debate on social media, where some voices have circulated claims about “refereeing bias” in favour of Morocco. The CAF official insisted that such talk does not reflect the reality of how refereeing is managed and monitored at the highest level.
He also pointed to the importance of respecting referees and the institutions responsible for them, calling for criticism to be grounded in facts rather than rumours.
In doing so, the CAF official effectively cleared Morocco of the claims, reaffirming that refereeing decisions are handled within a framework designed to protect fairness and integrity in CAF competitions.
