Zinedine Zidane has been tipped as a possible next manager of Manchester United if Michael Carrick leaves Old Trafford at the end of the season.

Carrick stepped into the dugout on an interim basis after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked, taking charge while United worked on a longer-term plan.

Now, with questions still surrounding what comes next, it has been suggested that Zidane could become an option should Carrick’s temporary spell come to an end in the summer.

The former Real Madrid boss is currently out of work after leaving the Bernabeu, and his record in Spain continues to make him one of the most high-profile coaches on the market.

Zidane guided Madrid to major honours across two spells in charge, including Champions League and La Liga success, and his experience at the very top level has kept him in the conversation whenever elite jobs open up.

United, who remain in transition following Solskjaer’s departure, are still assessing their next steps, with Carrick’s situation one of the key factors in the short-term picture.

The possibility of Zidane being considered has been raised in that context, with the Frenchman’s name again linked to a move into the Premier League if the right opportunity arises.

For now, Carrick remains in charge on an interim basis, but the idea of Zidane arriving at Old Trafford has been floated should there be another change in the technical area at the end of the campaign.
