CAF president Patrice Motsepe said from Dar es Salaam that the incidents witnessed during the AFCON final of what he described as a “wonderful tournament” were “a disgrace” and a “stain” on African football.
Speaking in strong terms, Motsepe stressed that CAF will not tolerate any actions that harm the reputation of the game on the continent, warning that the confederation will be firm in protecting African football’s image.
Motsepe’s comments came as he addressed the events that accompanied the final, insisting that what happened cannot be accepted after a competition that delivered high-quality football and positive organization in many aspects.
He added that CAF’s position is clear: any behavior that damages the credibility and standing of African football will face consequences, underlining that the confederation’s responsibility is to safeguard the sport and its values.
