Former Netherlands international Khalid Boulahrouz has hit out at Liverpool forward Luis Diaz after the Colombian attempted a “Panenka” penalty, questioning the decision and the player’s attitude.
Boulahrouz, speaking in a strong tone, criticised the chip down the middle and suggested Diaz was trying to show off at the wrong moment. “Do you think you’re Zidane?” he said, making it clear he felt the penalty was unnecessary and disrespectful in such a situation.
The former defender’s comments focused on the risk of that kind of finish, insisting that penalties should be taken with clarity and responsibility, not with tricks that can backfire and put the team under pressure.
