Luis Enrique let rip after Paris Saint-Germain suffered a surprise UEFA Champions League defeat at Sporting, despite the Spaniard insisting his side were “superior” and had produced “our best away game ever”.
PSG controlled long spells of the contest in Lisbon and created chances, but Sporting struck at key moments to turn the night against the French champions and hand them a damaging loss on the European stage.
After the final whistle, Luis Enrique refused to hide his anger as he assessed what he saw during the game. The PSG head coach complained about what he called “sh*tty football” and said Sporting’s approach did not reflect the way he believes the sport should be played, even though it proved effective enough to deliver the result.
He also stressed that PSG did more than enough to win, pointing to their performance away from home as one of the best of his time in charge, but admitted his team were made to pay for not making their dominance count.
The defeat leaves PSG frustrated after a performance Luis Enrique felt deserved far more, while Sporting celebrated a huge Champions League scalp in front of their own fans.
