Pochettino flirts with Tottenham return despite USMNT ties

Mauricio Pochettino has again hinted at a possible return to Tottenham, despite being linked with the United States men’s national team, and has insisted that winning the Premier League would mean more to him than lifting the World Cup.

The Argentine, who previously spent more than five years in charge in north London, has spoken openly about the pull Spurs still have on him. Pochettino led Tottenham to the Champions League final in 2019 and remains a popular figure among supporters, with his name continuing to surface whenever the club faces questions over its direction.

Pochettino also made clear that, in his eyes, simply qualifying for the Europa League would not satisfy the ambitions he associates with Tottenham. He suggested the club should be aiming higher, underlining the standards he believes are required at the top level.

At the same time, Pochettino has been mentioned as a candidate for the USMNT job, with the national team building towards the 2026 World Cup on home soil. However, his latest comments once again kept the door open to a Spurs comeback, adding to the uncertainty over what his next step will be.

In a separate admission, Pochettino said he would rather win the Premier League than the World Cup, a view that will raise eyebrows given the prestige of international football. He framed it as a reflection of how difficult it is to win England’s top flight across a long season, and how highly he values success in that environment.

The remarks add fresh heat to the long-running discussion about where Pochettino’s future lies, while ensuring Tottenham’s name remains firmly attached to him despite ongoing USMNT ties.
