Former Ivory Coast star Yaya Toure has denied comments attributed to him on social media that targeted Morocco’s hosting of the Africa Cup of Nations.
Toure said his name had been used in misleading campaigns and stressed that the quotes being circulated were completely fabricated. He rejected any link to statements attacking the tournament in Morocco, pointing out that he has not made remarks of that kind in any interview or post.
The football legend underlined that he respects Morocco and African football, and called on fans to be careful with pages and accounts that spread false information using the names of well-known public figures.
Toure’s response comes after the fake quotes were widely shared online, prompting him to publicly clear up the situation and distance himself from the claims made in his name.
