Egypt top list of Africa Cup of Nations winners all time

Egypt remain the most successful national team in the history of the Africa Cup of Nations, topping the all-time list of winners with seven titles.

The Pharaohs lifted the trophy in 1957, 1959, 1986, 1998, 2006, 2008 and 2010, a record that no other African nation has matched. The fact revealed in the historical rankings is that Egypt’s seven crowns keep them clear at the top of the continent’s biggest international competition.

Cameroon sit second on the list with five AFCON triumphs, after winning the tournament in 1984, 1988, 2000, 2002 and 2017.

Ghana are level with Cameroon on four titles, secured in 1963, 1965, 1978 and 1982, while Nigeria follow with three1980, 1994 and 2013.

Ivory Coast have also won the Africa Cup of Nations three times, achieving success in 1992, 2015 and 2023.

Among the nations with twoAlgeria (1990, 2019), DR Congo (1968, 1974) and Zambia (2012, 2024).

Several teams have lifted the trophy once: Sudan (1970), Ethiopia (1962), Morocco (1976), Tunisia (2004), South Africa (1996), Angola (2006) and Senegal (2021).

The historic record underlines Egypt’s dominance in the competition, with Cameroon and Ghana still the closest challengers across the decades.
