Guardiola hails Marmoush as exceptional after defeat

Marmoush embraces Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, both displaying emotions post-match in a blue stadium backdrop.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola praised Omar Marmoush, calling him an “exceptional” player, but insisted his team will not use the forward’s absence as an excuse for defeats.

Guardiola’s comments came after the loss, as he moved to underline that City’s results cannot be blamed on one missing name, no matter how influential.

“Marmoush is exceptional,” Guardiola said, while stressing that the responsibility for any setbacks remains with the whole squad and staff, not injuries or unavailable players.

He added that City must respond on the pitch, improve their performances and stop looking for reasons outside the game, repeating that they “do not make excuses” even when key players are missing.
