Jesse Lingard is in contact with Dutch giants Ajax as the former Manchester United midfielder weighs up his next move as a free agent.
The England international remains without a club and is looking at his options after leaving Nottingham Forest at the end of last season. Ajax have made contact with Lingard’s camp to discuss the possibility of a free-transfer move to Amsterdam.
The approach has opened the door to a potential reunion with a former Manchester United team-mate, with Ajax’s squad containing familiar faces from Lingard’s time at Old Trafford.
Lingard, 30, had a mixed spell at Forest during the 2022-23 campaign and has been training to stay sharp while considering where he wants to continue his career. A switch to the Eredivisie would offer him the chance to restart in a new league and compete at the top end of Dutch football.
Any deal would depend on the terms presented and Lingard’s own preferences, but the key development revealed is that Ajax have already made contact over a free transfer as interest builds in the former United and West Ham man.
