Manchester City have been sent a “savage” birthday cake to mark the three-year anniversary of the Premier League charging the club with 115 alleged breaches of its financial rules.
The cake, delivered on the date that City were first hit with the charges, was aimed at highlighting that the case is still unresolved three years on. The original Premier League decision, announced in February 2023 after a long investigation, accused City of numerous alleged rule breaches across several seasons, as well as failing to cooperate with the league’s inquiry.
City have always denied wrongdoing and continue to contest the charges.
The anniversary has again shone a spotlight on the length of the process, with no final verdict yet made public despite the seriousness of the allegations and the scale of the case.
In the meantime, City remain active on the pitch while the off-field situation continues to hang over the club, with supporters and rivals still waiting to see how the Premier League’s disciplinary process will conclude.
